Malcolm Gray Ortak Sterling Silver Maeshowe Dragon Pendant
Iconic Viking-Inspired Scottish Design. This exceptional vintage sterling silver pendant is a stunning example of early craftsmanship by Malcolm Gray, the visionary founder of Ortak Silversmiths in Orkney, Scotland. The pendant depicts the famous Maeshowe Dragon, an ancient Norse carving (or runic graffiti) left by Vikings inside the prehistoric Maeshowe chambered cairn during the 12th century.
This specific piece is an early production model, featuring excellent depth, texture, and a striking circular openwork frame that captures the essence of the Nordic revival movement.
Collector’s Authenticity & Condition
Unlike later mass-produced items, this early vintage piece features the clean, stamped “MG Silver” maker’s mark on the reverse. It possesses a beautiful natural patina that highlights its intricate engraving, though it can be polished to a bright shine if preferred.
