Antique Victorian Silver Sash Buckle Green Paste Etruscan Revival Cannetille

£39.95

Highly collectable antique Victorian sash buckle (also ideal for use as a dress clip or choker slider). Dating from the mid-to-late 19th-century Etruscan Revival movement, this piece features an ornate frame showcasing stamped relief detailing that beautifully mimics traditional, intricate cannetille wirework and granulation techniques.

At the heart of the buckle is a vibrant, oval-cut emerald-green glass paste stone. The stone is secured in a classic crimped, serrated bezel setting and looks to have a delicate foil-backing, which gives the gem a deeply luminous, radiant inner glow when catching the light.

The reverse side retains its original hardware, featuring a vertical stabilization bar and a curved metal clamping loop to securely thread and fasten fabric or ribbon.

Item Specifications:

  • Era: Victorian (circa 1860 to 1890) / Etruscan Revival Style
  • Material: Unmarked Silver (Tests positive for silver content; likely continental .800 or .925 sterling standard)
  • Stone: Foil-backed green glass paste
  • Dimensions: Approximately 22 mm by 18 mm
  • Weight: 2.66 grams
  • Condition: Antique condition with a gorgeous, deep age-earned patina to the silver recesses. Please note there is minor damage to one corner of the silver frame and some light surface scratches to the green glass stone commensurate with age and wear. The foil backing remains vibrant with excellent light reflection. The rear hardware is intact and structurally sound.
  • Care Note: Due to the delicate nature of historical foil-backed jewellery, this piece must never be submerged in water or cleaned with liquid chemicals, as moisture will damage the reflective foil layer.
