Antique Spoon Warmer, Silver Plated with green early plastic handles. Very of it’s time, but unusually late for a spoon warmer, so I feel these people were pretty posh!
Rare item, the only other example we’ve found, was sold at Bonhams in 2016.
Tarnished, cleaned but left unpolished.
Collector’s Notes
Spoon warmers are a fascinating reminder of the elegance and practicality of Victorian fine dining. Before central heating and modern serving dishes, hot gravies and sauces cooled quickly in grand country houses. These ingenious vessels were designed to hold the serving spoon between courses, helping to retain its warmth while preventing drips from marking fine linen.
They make wonderful display pieces as well as conversation starters. Surviving examples are increasingly difficult to find, this later Art Deco design will make a charming addition to any antique collection.
