Antique Silver St Christopher Medal Pendant, Burns Oates & Washbourne, Car & Plane, c. 1920s
Beautiful, authentic early 20th-century British Catholic devotional medal. It features Saint Christopher carrying the Christ Child on the reverse, and an early vintage motor car with a propeller airplane flying above on the obverse.
This piece carries excellent historical pedigree, featuring the maker’s mark stamped directly into the reverse for Burns, Oates & Washbourne Ltd. It is also stamped “SILVER”.
This medal is in heavily worn, beautifully rubbed condition. Far from being a flaw, this smooth wear tells a wonderful story. It was clearly deeply loved and cherished by its original owner, having been rubbed for luck and comfort over a lifetime of journeys. The smoothing of the silver details gives it a gorgeous, tactile, and soulful antique character that modern or mint-condition medals simply cannot replicate. Please review the high-resolution photos carefully to see this wonderful patina. Price reflects condition.
