Antique John Gosnell Cherry Blossom Toilet Powder Tin Vanity Advertising. c 1900
A remarkably rare survivor! Unlike almost all other antique John Gosnell Cherry Blossom tins on the market, this Victorian/Edwardian example still retains its original 1d (One Penny) paper return stamp on the base. The stamp states that John Gosnell & Co. would repay one penny for the return of the uninjured container to their London works — a fascinating piece of early eco-industrial history. Complete with the bright floral lithograph and the iconic ‘Ich Dien’ crest on the lid. Perfect addition to any serious advertising or vanity collection.
Exterior: The lithographed pattern shows characteristic surface scuffs, small paint chips, and edge wear consistent with an item over a century old. The colours remain remarkably sharp and defined.
Interior: There is typical tarnishing and oxidation on the unlined interior metal surfaces, but no structural breaches, major dents, or heavy scaling rust.
